How To Choose The Correct Dance and Expo Floor

by RB 17. January 2011 03:50

Purchasing a dance or expo floor is a bit different  than choosing the kitchen tiles that best match your wall paper. There is more than just aesthetic design coming into play. You’ll want to consider a number of different attributes in order to choose the flooring that will best meet your needs.

First, consider the length of time the flooring will be in use. There are three options to choose when considering a time-frame: touring, semi-permanent, and permanent.  Permanent floors, such as Roscotile™, are best for dance and television studios, in which the flooring is expected to last for years. Touring flooring is flooring that will only be used temporarily.  These floors are designed to lay flat quickly and are flexible enough to be rolled and re-rolled for years, such as the the Rosco Show Floor.  For everything that falls in between, we have semi-permanent flooring options, such as Rose Brand’s Reversible Dance Floor.

Second, consider the different uses for each type of flooring.  Some floors can only be used by people wearing footwear with soft soles (e.g., ballet, jazz, and modern shoes). Other floors, such as The Rosco Adagio Tour, can be used by hard-soled wearers for activities such as tap and flamenco dancing . Some floors, such as the Rosco Performance Floors, are multi-purpose and can be used for everything.

Lastly, you need to choose color and finish.  Most of the floors come in black, white, and grey. If you can’t decide on one color, you can choose a reversible floor.  If you are looking for additional colors, Rose Brand’s Ballare Dance Floor comes in 7 varieties that include the above colors as well as red, light blue, royal blue, and green.  When it comes to finish, you must decide matte vs. glossy.  Matte floors hide scratches better than a glossed floor, so mattes are often preferred for tap class and events with a lot of foot traffic. Glossy floors are reflective and shiny, so they provide more of a “wow factor.” The chart below is organized to help you choose the flooring that is right for you.  For more information visit rosebrand.com or call one of our sales people at 800.223.1624.
